| DESCRIPTION
|
Formerly known as the Delamar Mountains or Kane Springs C source. The primary source area for this obsidian has not yet been located but is probably found in the Delamar Mountains to the west of Kane Springs Wash. Geochemical studies of obsidian samples collected from secondary deposits in the Delamar Mountains and along Kane Springs Wash indicate the presence of obsidian from the Delamar Mountains source. Specimens collected in Kane Springs Wash also co-occur with glass from the Kane Springs Wash Caldera Variety 2 source.
Few obsidian characterization studies have been carried out in this region and little is known of the prehistoric use of this source. The limited number of artifacts that have been correlated with Kane Springs are primarily from sites located in eastern and southeastern Nevada (particularly Lincoln County). Obsidian from the source has been identified as far south as the Las Vegas area.
